Author-it 5.0

Author-it 5.0 provides a new interface built on .NET, along with powerful new features and enhancements to facilitate reuse of content.

Author-it is an integrated application for authoring, managing, and publishing reusable content. The core application provides all of these capabilities, along with a rule-based import capability that enables you to bring in existing content from Word, RTF, HTML, and Help projects. It also includes default publishing templates for all of the outputs supported by Author-it, so that you can publish immediately to Word, PDF, HTML, XHTML, WinHelp, Windows HTML Help, Java Help and Oracle Help for Java. (You can also customize publishing templates to match your house style requirements for each type of output.) In addition, you can publish to a rich XML output or to DITA XML for content exchange.

The central organizing principle behind Author-it is the ability to reuse content at any level through a drag and drop interface. You can maintain one copy of a piece of content, and reuse that content in multiple documents or in multiple output media (such as print, HTML, and help deliverables). Changing a content object automatically updates the content in any documents where that object is used when you republish. Author-it provides a multi-user environment with security control, version control, revision history, document release control, variables, and dynamic check-in and check-out.

The Author-it Base User License is a floating license that includes a Jet database connector.

Optional user and server licenses provide extended capabilities.
